Long distance travel by bus.

Most long distance scheduled services are provided by National Express and Scottish Citylink. You travel to all major towns and cities in Britain. Long distance buses are, of course, slower than trains, but they are a real cheap alternative.
Most buses are very comfortable and there are often drinks and snacks on the bus.
Single tickets and passes for the National Express coaches are pre-sale via the Internet.

Travel Cards.
There are several ways to save money on bus tickets.

Are you:

 • between 16 and 25 years old
 • an older student (over 26)
 • 60 years or over

Then you can buy a Discount Coach Card, which allows you 50% discount on the normal price for an adult on a National Express bus on the mainland of Great Britain (30% discount children anyway). They are valid for one year.
